December

From The Director’s Desk

The month of November has been a busy travel month for me . First, Wilene and I went to Shocco Springs for the early bird VBS preview. This year’s theme is “In The Wild Amazing Encounters with Jesus.” The Scripture is from John 20:31- : But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.”

Each encounter will be like a snapshot of a specific moment of Jesus captured on the pages of the Scriptures. I know it is early to even be talking about VBS, but time just seems to fly by and before we know it school will be out, summer will be here and it will be time for VBS. So even at this early time ,please begin praying about VBS. This is still the best evangelistic tool that we have to go and tell the greatest story that has ever been told to children of all ages and even adults. Last year, over 2.5 million people participated in VBS  across America, and more than 65,000 people made the greatest decision that they ever made and that was to believe and follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior!

One of the greatest thing that you can do is to plan for and  have a Vacation Bible School this year, no matter the size of your church. We just need to join God on this great kingdom-expanding work. The investment that you will make in those in our communities will bring eternal benefits.

This year the VBS team will go to First Baptist Church in Bay Minette, Al  on February 20 from 8:30 am until Noon to get some fresh updates and training for VBS. If you would like to go and learn more about this year VBS, please let me know here at the office.

Just a few days after our trip to Shocco Springs, Wilene and I went to Trussville, Al to the Alabama Baptist State Convention. This is always a good time for me as we meet with the other Director of Mission’s and their wives to have a time of fellowship and learn from each other. Plus on Monday of the convention is the Pastor’s conference were there is a full day of preaching and singing. This is open to all, not just the pastor’s across the state. If you have never been to the pastor’s conference let me encourage you to make plans to attend one. Next year the Alabama Baptist State Convention will be at Daphne Baptist Church on November 12-13.

I promise you, if you would ever attend one of these Pastor’s conference you will come away forever encourage, comforted, and excited after all the great messages and the music  from that day. It makes for a long day but boy is it worth it!!

Let me say thanks to all who gave to the backpack ministry. Your generousity and your mission spirit just overwhelms me.

We asked for 140 backpacks to go to Gallaway Ministries in Gallaway, Tn.and we got 275 backpacks.  There will be 24 of us, from here that will take 167 backpacks to First Baptist Church in Callaway Tn. on December 13th –16th to personally hand out these backpacks and share the Gospel to those in need.  These backpacks are with the Alabama WMU and these will go to the Mississippi River region, the other 108 backpacks were delivered and they will go to the Appalachian Mountain Ministry with Bill Barber. Again, thanks to all for you mission spirit as you have given to those in need in this area of our Nation.

There is still a lot of work going on in the Hurricane hit areas of our Nation. The best way to still help is to give through the Alabama Baptist Disaster relief fund. There may be some opportunities down the road for mission trips but we have to wait and see how all this will work out.

Pastor’s and church staff please put this date on your calendar, Saturday, January 16, 2019 from 9am until noon. Bro. Don Setser, CPA from Saraland, Al will be here to share with us some very important tax information that we need as a pastor’s and church staff. This will be open to church member's who would like to attend. So please mark you calendar for Saturday, January 16th.

Ya’ll have a Merry Christmas, love ya’ll and prayers.
